Re: Libbeh's Gallery

Post by Libbeh on Fri Dec 28, 2007 6:27 pm

I used pen tool for the glowy thing, and 'Select>Grow' and 'Edit>Fill With Foreground/Background Color'. Oh yeah, and 'Duplicate Layer', then I would move it down and right, 'Alpha to Selection', 'Fill with Foreground/Background Color'. I used Gaussian Blur for the glow on the line.

New Sig, I made it for Mark, he needed a new Spinno sig. Very Happy

Somebody asked me for a tutorial on the new sig I made for Mark, so I'll post it here too.

First of all, you will need grundge brushes, GIMP 2.4, a scanlines pattern, and a render.

1. Open up a canvas, 300x100 is what I chose.

2. Go to Filters>Render>Clouds>Solid Noise-Mess with the settings, something close to 2 and 2.

3. Brush around in Grey and Black with your grundge brushes on a new layer.

4. Place your render in the middle on a new layer, resize as needed.

5. Duplicate your grundge brush layer, place it over your render layer, and erase with a soft brush over the face or main part of the render.

6. Brush on a new layer with the sparks brush, but not over your focal.

7. Filters>Map>Displace-Play with the settings.

8. Edit>Copy Visible>-Edit>Paste-Layer>New Layer

9. Colors>Desaturate

10. Colors>Color Balance-You can play around with the settings, I chose:
Cyan to Red at -72
Magenta to Green at 50
Yellow to Blue at 100

11. Layer>New Layer-Brush with some grundge brushes on the edges.

12. Layer>New Layer- Brush with assorted GIMP default circle brushes in black (not soft brushes).
Make a new layer for grey and a new layer for white doing the same thing.

13. Open your scanlines as a new layer, right click them in your layers dialog, and pick alpha to selection.

14. Click on your grey circle layer and hit the delete key on your keyboard.

15. Set your circle layers to 'overlay'.

16. Make a new layer and fill it with black.

17. Double-click on the circle select/elliptical select tool, and check the "Feather Edges" box and change it to 100.

18. Select around your focal, then hit 'ctrl' and 'x' at the same time.

19. Lower the opacity to your liking.

20. On a new layer brush with white grundge brushes on the edges.

21. Lower the opacity and change the blending mode, I used "soft light".

22. Edit>Copy Visible>-Edit>Paste-Layer>New Layer

23. Make your foreground color black and your background color a main color from your render. (red for me)

24. Now go to Colors>Maps>Gradient Map

25. Set that layer to "Screen"

ADD A BORDER AND TEXT, NOW YOUR DONE! Very Happy

Use this as your scanlines layer.

Re: Libbeh's Gallery

Post by Libbeh on Sun Dec 30, 2007 12:43 pm

Ok, time for the text tutorial on the avatar.

For this you will need a solid font (not an outline i.e.Dark Crystal Outline or Bored Schoolboy), GIMP 2.4 and knowledge of it, and knowledge on how to use the pen tool.

1. Make a new image, about 100x100 should work, depending on the text size. Now, type in your text using Freetype (Filters>Freetype).

2. Duplicate your text layer, and right-click it and click "alpha to selection".

3. Fill your duplicated layer with black, move it down and right, put it under your regular text layer.

4. New Layer, Alpha to Selection on your text layer, Select>Grow, and grow it by 1 pixel, now, fill it with black.

5. Now, on a new layer, with that selection still going, grow it by 2 pixels, fill it with a color that goes with your text color.

6. Now, on another new layer grow the still active selection by 2 pixels, fill it with black.

7. Another new layer, bring out your path/pen tool, make a squiggly path over the text. Now go to your paths dialog (Dialogs>Paths), and click stroke path, make sure you foreground color is white, and change the settings to 3.0 pixels. Click 'OK'.

8. On your back-most layer, (the black grown selection) hit 'Alpha to Selection', now, on your path layer, erase everything inside that selection.

9. Alpha to selection on your path layer, and on a new layer fill it with the color of your main text, Filters>Gaussian Blur by 10.0 vertical and horizontal, put it under your path layer, and duplicate it once.

CONGRATS! YOU'RE NOW DONE!

Well, FreeType is definately necessary, I'll link you to a download, it'll tell you how to install as well, but I can't get to it until the Miniclip Forums are back up and running. Also, for the avatar tutorial, pictures can be found on Miniclip, again, I have to wait, and really, this is more of a conversion from a Photoshop tutorial.

Also, new sig:

No brushes at all, just smudge.

http://files.filefront.com/FreeTypeP.../fileinfo.html
There's a download to the FreeType filter.
I'll try to find the avatar tutorial asap, but really, everything is in that text tut.

Well, I looked at every post Icy Chris (original Photoshop tutorial maker) made, and I couldn't find the original tutorial, if you can find it, that'd be great, and it's good that you found the FreeType filter. Very Happy
